The Avadi Beginning
In 1990, Francis Leonard Babu opened Studio Zoom in Avadi with a single 35mm film camera, darkroom chemistry, and an insistence on honest, natural photography.
At a time when studio photography was dominated by rigid backdrops and painted scenery, Francis stepped outside the studio walls. He traveled to family homes, mandapams, corporate auditoriums, and community halls across Chennai to document events as they genuinely happened: the unscripted warmth of family gatherings, key moments of cultural ceremonies, and the focus of corporate conventions.
Over thirty-six years, photographic technology moved from chemical darkrooms to high-resolution digital sensors and 4K cinema cameras. Yet our foundation has never changed: stay attentive, respect the people in front of the lens, and deliver photographs and films that look as authentic thirty years later as they did on the day of the event.
